Rental Wallpaper
Rental wallpaper is a wall covering you can take down again without losing your deposit. It is self-adhesive, so there is no paste and no primer. Giffywalls prints each design to the exact width and height of your wall, and it lifts off cleanly at the end of a tenancy.
Why Rental Wallpaper Suits British Flats
Most tenancies here come with the same rules. No painting, no drilling, nothing permanent. This gets round all of it. The paper goes on a painted wall and comes off the same way. Renters in London, Manchester and Bristol use it to make a beige flat feel like theirs. When the tenancy ends, the wall goes back to how it started and the deposit stays where it belongs.
The whole removable wallpaper range works this way, from quiet textures to full murals.
Which Walls It Suits
Modern Flats and New Builds
These are the easy ones. Smooth, painted plasterboard holds the adhesive well. Satin and silk finishes are best of all. Watch out for a flat matt paint, which can lift with the paper. Give fresh paint a few weeks to cure first, and wipe the wall down before you start.
Older and Period Homes
Old walls are rarely flat. Where the plaster is bumpy the adhesive only meets the high points, so the paper can lift at the edges. A chimney breast is usually the smoothest wall in a Victorian room, which makes it the best place to start. Our peel and stick wallpaper copes well with a sound painted surface.
Taking It Down
Start at a top corner. Warm the edge a little with a hair dryer. Pull down and back on itself, slowly and at a low angle. Rushing is what takes paint with it. Any adhesive left behind comes off with warm soapy water.
- Bedrooms: one wall behind the bed.
- Cloakrooms: small enough to wrap completely.
- Hallways: a texture that hides everyday scuffs.
- Studies: a calm backdrop for video calls.
- Living rooms: one wall behind the sofa.

FAQs
Which materials is best for wallpaper?
Wallpapers are made from standard paper, canvas paper, premium paper, peel and stick materials for durability and style.
How Do I Measure My Wall for a Wall Mural?
Measure the wall's width and height, adding 2–4 inches for trimming. Check for obstacles like windows or doors and note their dimensions. Double-check measurements before ordering!
How Do I Order Custom Size Wallpaper or Wall Mural?
Pick a design, enter wall dimensions, choose material, and place your order. Contact support for help!
Does rental wallpaper really come off without damage?
Yes. On smooth, sound, well-cured paint, peel and stick murals lift off cleanly with no residue. Peel slowly from a corner at an angle. The main exceptions are flaky paint, fresh paint that has not cured, and heavily textured walls.
Will my landlord be able to tell it was there?
Not if the wall was in good condition when you applied it. The low-tack adhesive leaves paint untouched, so after removal the wall looks the way it did at move-in. Testing a sample patch first is the safest way to confirm on your specific paint.
How long can rental wallpaper stay up?
Years, if you want it to. The adhesive is designed to hold long-term on smooth painted walls while remaining removable. Many renters keep a mural up through an entire multi-year lease and remove it cleanly on moving day.
Is it printed to my exact wall size?
Yes. Enter your wall's width and height and we print the mural to your exact measurements as one continuous design, with panels numbered in hanging order, so even a temporary wall looks fully custom.
Can I reuse the mural in my next apartment?
Sometimes. Carefully removed panels can be re-hung on a similar-sized wall, though adhesion weakens with each move. Most renters reorder the same design printed to the new wall's dimensions, which guarantees a perfect fit.
