What Is Christmas Wallpaper?

Christmas wallpaper is a printed wall covering with festive designs such as Christmas trees, pine branches, Santa, reindeer, gingerbread houses and snowy winter scenes. It comes in two formats: a wall mural, which is one large picture covering the whole wall, and a repeat-pattern wallpaper, which repeats a small design across the wall. Peel and stick versions can be removed once the festive season is over.

Christmas Wallpaper Styles

The Giffywalls Christmas collection is organised into seven styles, so you can match your existing décor.

Preppy and Modern Christmas Trees

Ribbon-tied trees, frosted pines, tossed trees and neat tree grids in cranberry red, forest green and antique gold. This clean, cheerful style suits modern living rooms, dining rooms and hallways, and pairs well with simple garlands and metallic accents.

Classic Plaid, Stripes and Ornaments

Windowpane plaids with hand-drawn stars, red and green cherry stripes, golden ornament motifs and winter damask. These timeless patterns bring a traditional British Christmas feel to sitting rooms, dining rooms and snugs.

Rustic Pine, Berries and Winter Birds

Watercolour pine branches with oranges, cinnamon and pine cones, spruce and berry branches, and winter birds such as robins and red cardinals. This style gives a warm, cottage-like feel and is subtle enough to stay up from late November until the end of winter.

Santa, Reindeer and Retro Prints

Bright, playful repeats with smiling Santas, cute reindeer, dancing dolls, festive lights and retro holiday doodles. These designs are a favourite for children's bedrooms, playrooms and fun accent walls.

Storybook Scenes and Woodland Friends

Illustrated murals of gingerbread forests, sugar plum woods, woodland bears decorating the tree, and forest animals on sleigh rides and sledging adventures. They make a cheerful backdrop for a child's bedroom, a reading corner or a family Christmas photo.

Snowy Villages, Cabins and Snowflakes

Large murals of glowing winter villages and cosy cabin retreats, plus delicate snowflake patterns. The murals fill a whole feature wall behind a sofa, dining table or fireplace, while the snowflake designs suit bedrooms and hallways.

Christmas in London and City Scenes

Festive city murals with decorated London streets, the London Eye, Hyde Park and the Thames in snow, the guards on parade and glowing winter city lights. They bring a classic Christmas-in-the-city mood to living rooms, cafés and shop displays.

For a bold statement wall, look for the oversized Christmas bauble mural or the playful Christmas twist on a famous classic portrait.

Christmas Wall Mural vs Repeat-Pattern Wallpaper

Choose a mural for one dramatic focal wall. Choose a repeat pattern to cover a larger area or several walls.

  • Christmas wall mural: One large scene, such as a snowy village or a London street, printed across the whole wall to your exact width and height. Best for feature walls, Christmas photo backdrops and shop displays.
  • Repeat-pattern Christmas wallpaper: A small design, such as Christmas trees, plaid or Santa faces, repeated seamlessly across the wall. Best for whole rooms, hallways, accent walls and the backs of shelves.

Best Christmas Wallpaper for Every Room

  • Living room or sitting room: A snowy village or Christmas in London mural behind the sofa or around the fireplace becomes the centrepiece of your festive décor.
  • Children's bedroom or playroom: Santa, reindeer, gingerbread and woodland animal designs feel magical without being overwhelming. See more in our kids' room wallpaper collection.
  • Dining room and kitchen: Rustic pine with oranges and cinnamon, or classic plaid and stripes, set the mood for Christmas dinner.
  • Hallway and entrance: A repeating Christmas tree or plaid pattern greets guests the moment they walk through the door.
  • Home office or video-call wall: A subtle evergreen, berry or winter bird design gives a festive background that still looks professional.
  • Shops, cafés, pubs and offices: Large murals create an instant Christmas photo spot and can be removed in January.

Peel and Stick or Traditional Christmas Wallpaper?

If you want the wallpaper only for the festive season, choose peel and stick. If you plan to keep a winter design up for longer, traditional paper gives a more permanent finish.

  • Peel and stick: Self-adhesive backing with no paste or water. Best for renters, seasonal décor and removing after Christmas.
  • Standard paper: Applied with wallpaper paste. A budget-friendly choice for longer-term walls.
  • Premium paper: Applied with wallpaper paste. A richer finish for living and dining rooms.
  • Canvas paper: Applied with wallpaper paste. A textured, art-like look for statement murals.

How to Hang Christmas Wallpaper in 5 Steps

  1. Measure your wall. Note the width and height, add 5–10 cm for trimming, and mark any windows, doors, sockets or radiators.
  2. Order your made-to-measure size. Enter your measurements on the product page and choose your material.
  3. Prepare the wall. Make sure the surface is clean, dry and smooth.
  4. Hang the first panel. Start at the top corner, line it up straight and work downwards. For peel and stick, peel back the liner a little at a time.
  5. Smooth and trim. Push out air bubbles with a smoothing tool, then trim the excess at the ceiling and skirting board with a sharp blade.

To take peel and stick wallpaper down after Christmas, lift slowly from a top corner and pull at a low angle. Store the panels flat if you want to use them again.

Christmas Wallpaper Decorating Ideas

  • Christmas photo wall: Hang a snowy village or bauble mural and use it as the backdrop for family photos.
  • Chimney breast feature: Wallpaper the chimney breast in a rustic pine or plaid pattern and add stockings and garland to the mantelpiece.
  • Children's reading nook: Use a gingerbread or woodland storybook mural behind a small bookshelf and cushions.
  • Shelf and dresser backs: Line open shelves or a dresser with a preppy tree or cherry stripe pattern for a small, quick update.
  • Shop window or counter wall: A Christmas in London mural creates a seasonal display that customers want to photograph.

What is Christmas wallpaper?

Christmas wallpaper is a printed wall mural with festive themes such as trees, Santa, snow, reindeer, and Nordic patterns. It is made to fit your wall size and applied for the holiday season. Most options are removable or peel and stick.

Is Christmas wallpaper easy to remove after the holidays?

Yes. Peel and stick Christmas wallpaper lifts off without leaving residue on paint or plaster. It works well for renters, apartments, and short term decor. Take it down slowly from one top corner and store the panels flat for reuse.

Can I customize a Christmas mural to my wall size?

Yes. Each Christmas mural is made to your exact width and height in inches or centimeters. Simply share your wall size at checkout and the print is cut to fit. Custom size avoids waste, gaps, and awkward joins around windows.

How long does Christmas wallpaper last on a wall?

A self adhesive Christmas mural can stay up for a full season or longer. Many customers leave winter and Nordic designs up through January and February. The print does not yellow or peel under normal indoor light and heating.

What rooms work best for Christmas wallpaper?

Living rooms, hallways, kids rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens are the most popular picks. Shop windows, cafes, and offices also use festive murals for seasonal display. Pick the wall opposite the main seating for the strongest visual hit.

Yes. Wipe light marks with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the surface or scrub with abrasive pads. Most peel and stick designs handle light cleaning in kitchens and entryways without color loss.

Are Christmas wallpaper murals safe for kids rooms?

Yes. Our prints use child safe water based inks with low odor. The paper is tear resistant for play areas and nurseries. Pick playful snowman, reindeer, or gingerbread designs for younger children.
