Check a few things before you order. If you painted your wall recently, give the paint three or four weeks to cure properly. Any sooner and the wallpaper can lift the paint off when you eventually take the sheet down. Paint that's been on the wall for months holds up fine. Woodchip and textured walls cause the real headaches. Sanding the surface flat and filling the dents takes a bit of time, but without that step the sheet won't grip the wall properly.

On measurements, don't trust your first reading. Older UK houses rarely have square walls, and the corners can sit a fair bit off from the top to the bottom. Add two or three centimetres to each dimension so you've got something to trim at the end. Spotted a radiator, plug socket, or light switch on the wall?
